Pastoral Care – Healing of the Heart

Pastors are one of the gifts God provides to the body of Christ

Ephesians 4:11-13

“And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;”

Being a pastor is not a career – it is a divine calling from God

Today many have the title of pastor:

* without a formation

* without maturing

* without being processed

Because of this, the body of Christ is sick. Many want the position but not the formation!

There are many flaws in the leaders today:

* character

* conduct

* formation

All effective leaders should go through The Law of Process

Without being processed and formed we will:

* miss treat the people under us

* take advantage of the authority given

* control the people

* intimidate the people

All leaders need to be formed, processed and taken to maturity

Today’s pastor face challenges that require more than studies and charisma – they need the supernatural power of God!

Requirements for today’s pastors

  1. A pastor w/o the supernatural power of God will not be effective
  2. A pastor w/o SN power of God is not a real church
  3. A pastor w/o SN power of God is an illegal witness
  4. A pastor w/o SN power of God becomes religious

Profile of an End Times Pastor

  1. Has a pastoral heart
  2. Is a “caregiver”
  3. Smells like sheep
  4. Is approachable and accessible
  5. Is relational – desires and knows how to build relationships
  6. God causes the people to hear his voice

John 10:27

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.”

  1. They impart a sense of security
  2. They are a people person

End Times pastors:

  1. Should be consecrated
  2. Feed the sheep – milk/ solids

1 Corinthians 3:1-2

“And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ.  I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able;”

To the immature we provide milk, to the mature we provide solids

Hebrews 5:14

“But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of [d]use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.”

III. Called to supply the needs of the people

Physical, Emotionally, Mentally

*** Every need of man is supplied by the SN power of God ***

This is done by

  1. Discernment
  2. Word
  3. SN power of God

  1. The ability gather & tend the people
  2. Guide people
  3. Lays his life for the people

The currency exchange of the pastor

VII. The pastor heals the sheep

Today many people need pastors, leaders with a pastor’s heart to heal the heart of the people

In the End Times – the biggest target of our enemy is the heart

How does he do this?

Offense, rejection, abuse, pain, betrayal etc…

God wants to transform the heart of the church – prepare us to become the bride with a healed heart for His coming

// The condition of your heart will be the condition of your life //

There is a “process” to the healing of the heart

We focus more on demos and do not take responsibility to change and transform our heart

The heart is a mystery – hidden and can only be understood through the spirit of God

God places priority to the heart

1 Samuel 16:7 KJV

“But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.”

God wants to heal you but first desires to heal your heart

Proverbs 4:23 KJV

“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”

Natural heart pumps blood – Spiritual heart pumps life

Out of the abundance of the heart life springs forth, the tongue will speak

Functions of the Heart

  1. The heart regulates the flow of life
  2. The heart is the gatekeeper to external influences
  3. Intentions, motives and intimate thoughts are found in the heart
  4. The heart is a means to develop intimacy

* If the heart is not there then the relationship is not real

* I cannot have an intimate relationship with God if I have a hurt heart

Matthew 22:37 KJV

“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.”

*** When a heart is hurt or wounded – part of your heart is unaccessible

Every genuine relationship is birth, cultivated and perfected in the heart through love

  1. With the heart we believe God – where ever in your heart you have pain you won’t be able to believe God and/or love God

  1. The heart is where your identity is found

Proverbs 23:7 KJV

“For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.”

How ever you believe in your heart that you are – that is who you are! That is how you will live!

*Hurt and pain produces you to become hurt and pain

Different types of hearts

Stoney heart

Offended heart

Heart of unbelief

Obedient heart

Broken heart

Surrendered heart

Heart after God

What is the heart?

  • Your true “you”
  • Your identity
  • The center of a spiritual being
  • The inner being of humans
  • The most sacrate intimate part of a person
  • The core

  1. The heart is the resting seat of the Presence of God

What is a wounded heart?

Psalms 147:3

“He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.”

Luke 4:18

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,”

  1. Anointing is to preach the good news and for the people to be born again
  2. Heal the brokenhearted
  3. Deliver the captives
  4. Minister healing
  5. Set the people completely free

The healing of the heart empowers the people to have a relationship with God the Father

What is a broken heart?

  • To be shattered into pieces
  • Fragmented
  • Not functioning as a whole due to painful experiences and traumas

NO one goes through life without painful experiences

  • wounds, pain, injuries, grief

This is the part of our heart that we can’t give or receive love

It’s a result of allowing people to walk over us

When a person’s heart is wounded/ broken they start to leak the life of God

People struggle in their identity because of a mark left in their heart

*** Restoration of the heart ***

God desires to heal our heart

Malachi 4:6

“And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.”

Ezekiel 36:26

“A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.”

God desires to transform our hearts to establish a resting place in our hearts

We have to desire and want God to heal our hearts

Psalms 51:10-11

“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.”

God provides His Presence, Word and Spirit to transform our hearts

What do I need to do?

  1. Repent
  2. Forgive/ Let go
  3. Continually renew our mind
