This is Allan Tam from Toronto, Canada. I was a teenager when I left Hong Kong for Canada in 1990. I am now a married man with three young children. It is amazing that God, the great God who controls the universe, wants to use you and me to do His will. God will use any believer who is willing to be used and willing to prepare himself.
I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and savior in 1997, baptized by water in 2001. I first heard of FGB through brother Samuel Chan in 2003 when our church held a 40 Day’s Prayer Meeting for the City. During the meeting I asked God to use me, God opened my blind eyes and I saw all my sins. I repented and Holy Spirit came to fill me up. I have been part of FGB Toronto since then.
Praise the Lord, He gives me wisdom, power and strength. In the first several years in FGB, I worshipped the Lord with FGB brothers and shared testimony to people, but that was just a beginning to transform myself as a new wine into new wineskins. In May 2010, brother Hugo Chan came to Toronto to provide training on The Seven Mountain Prophecy. The idea is really quite simple: in our culture, there are Seven Mountains (think of them as “spheres” or simply “areas”) of Influence, and the modern church is being called to build influence on each of those mountains. These seven mountains are business, government, media, arts and entertainment, education, the family and religion.
I felt God was speaking to me, saying “You should now reclaim the mountain.” I asked God which mountain I should aim for. On July 1, 2010, Canada Day, a lady came up to me and showed me a flyer about an upcoming municipal election in October 2010. Within few weeks, another person gave me his campaign flyer. I had a very strong feeling that God wanted me to look into Politics. Finally, I put my name forward for the municipal election in August 2010, and I got elected an office in October 2010. The only thing I did in the two month campaign was just praying with FGB brothers. This is God’s miracles, brothers. When the world sees the ungodly turn godly, they know God must love them too.
In the past five years, I built a strong relationship with different levels of the Government. As a Christian it is my duty to pray for our government and for each leader who represents our people. In 2015, I expressed my will to the government official that I would like to meet and pray for Prime Minister Stephen Harper. I was appointed by Federal Government to convene Chinese Christian Leaders to meet with Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Ministers in Ottawa’s Parliament Hill, the political and cultural heart of the city on June 2, 2015. FGB President brother Samuel Chan and 8 Leaders were invited; this is a very first time in the history, a Prime Minister meets with Canadian-Chinese Christian Leaders. It is our great honour and privilege to pray for the Canadian Government and lay hands on Prime Minister Mr. Harper.
Canada’s official motto “A Mari usque ad Mare” meaning “From sea to sea” is based on Psalms 72:8 “He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth.” The first official use came in 1906. Our Country had made many ungodly decisions; God uses His people to reclaim the country back. We need to continue pray for Canada.
No matter who you are or what you have done, God can use you. God can use you, my FGB brothers!
